About me
Hi, I’m Lauren and I am an HCPC registered music therapist based in Glasgow, with an MSc in Music Therapy from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
My passion for music began with my love for singing, which has only deepened over the years as I explored other aspects of music and other instruments. Prior to my training in music therapy, I worked as a music practitioner, where I delivered workshops for children and adults with additional support needs. I also have experience delivering educational music activities to various age groups.
I firmly believe that music has the power to positively impact our wellbeing. My own struggles with anxiety and OCD have profoundly shaped my understanding of mental health and the therapeutic process. This personal journey fuels my dedication to supporting others and connect through music.
My professional journey has allowed me to gain experience working within trauma-informed practice, and working with children and adults with additional support needs.
My approach
My work is informed by psychodynamic theory, which highlights the influence of the unconscious mind on behaviour and emotions. Psychodynamic theory may offer insight into our thoughts and feelings and help us to understand them. I prioritise developing a strong therapeutic relationship through a person-centred approach, which means that I remain flexible and attentive to the unique needs of each client that I work with, adapting my methods to best suit the client and create a supportive environment. By being authentic, empathetic, and sensitive to others’s experiences, I strive to create a safe space where clients feel valued and understood. This approach can support them to explore their emotions and experiences, at their own pace, through the use of music.
